Golf Product Showcase

Country Club Couture

The worlds of golf and fashion have come together to present pieces for on and off the green.

The new year is an ideal time to refresh your wardrobe, so be sure to check out the golf shop at Newport Beach Country Club for all of your fashionable needs—and wants. With sports apparel taking cues from high-end fashion houses, golf attire has become the perfect fit both on and off the course. So, whether you’re an avid golfer or just wanting to look your best around the clubhouse, there is something for everyone at the on-property boutique.

“We have some great fashion lines in the golf shop,” says Retail Manager Tammy. “The hot trends for golf and fashion in 2019 are coming from Europe,” she continues, noting that a few prominent designers that are available include Anatomie, Marble and Bugatchi.

Anatomie is a high-end European line, best known for its luxury travel apparel in a wide range of lightweight pieces featuring wrinkle-free fabrics. This classy clothing pairs well with a fast-paced lifestyle for women who are always on the go, with items for every occasion from a day on the course to business trips or even just hanging out in the clubhouse. Tammy notes the brand’s cutting-edge jackets and tops as well as the fabulous pants that “fit great and have just enough spandex for maximum comfort.”

Another European company, Marble, hails from Scotland and prides itself on creating feminine styles with a modern touch to present pieces that are luxurious without sacrificing comfort. The golf shop carries a selection of sweaters from the autumn/winter collection, which feature solid pops of color and simply elegant patterns. Shoppers can also find “a fantastic jean-like pant that can go from the golf course to a night out on the town,” according to Tammy.

Men have plenty of options, as well, such as the fine Italian cotton polos from Bugatchi, which feature playful patterns in vibrant colors that will add a bit of personality to your wardrobe. And the best part is that these pieces can be worn anywhere around the club, whether it’s on the course, by the pool or at the bar.

Even more great transitional pieces come from Tory Sport by Tory Burch, which “is actually new to golf apparel but has many items that can crossover from golf to streetwear,” Tammy notes. Featuring the sleek and simple designs for which the designer is known, mixed with a bit of graphic flair, this line includes clothing, shoes and accessories to match.

For those in search of looks without a sporty undertone, turn to Finley for its tailored shirts, dresses and blouses, all of which are made in America. Tammy says that this brand exemplifies “casualwear that would be comfortable, stylish and more than appropriate to wear around the clubhouse.”

Top off your look with standout accessories like a purse by Mayva K Collections, jewelry from Seasonal Whispers, as well as sunglasses from top designers like Tom Ford, Roberto Cavalli and Maui Jim. With the stylish sales associates at the golf shop on your side, you’re sure to look your best this season and beyond.

Love is always in the air at Newport Beach Country Club, and those who are looking to tie the knot need not look further than the clubhouse itself. With an indoor venue in the ballroom as well as an alfresco option on Oasis Lawn, the country club is able to accommodate up to 1,000 people, allowing for extravagant setups as well as more intimate gatherings.

“It starts with somebody who’s interested in a wedding: We’ll invite them to come in for a tour of the facility and to share their thoughts and dreams of how the day is going to be,” explains Catering Sales Manager Rachel, noting that couples can opt to have the full ceremony on property or just the reception, if they would prefer to say their vows in a church or elsewhere.

“It’s really a lot of planning behind the scenes and we’re obviously interfacing with them all the way through,” Rachel says. “I do the initial booking, contract, anything that is needed in terms of cost estimates, suggestions, different things that get them to a comfort level and then, once all of that is in place, Chloe, our events service manager, takes over and she helps them plan all the actual details of the wedding.”

Chloe has extensive experience as a wedding planner, so she understands the inner workings of a wedding and is readily available to assist however she can. “She has that background, she has that eye and she knows exactly how it should all be,” Rachel says.

In addition to Chloe’s insider knowledge, couples are required to hire their own wedding planner, who will help with aspects that are coming from outside sources, such as coordinating with musicians, photographers, florists and any rental companies providing specific decor.

“We’re constantly refining our vendor list as we discover new people who do amazing things, so it’s constantly being evaluated; that way, we can bring in the best for the people who want to get married here,” Rachel says of the details that her team handles.

With all of these connections and wedding expertise, the events and catering team is ready to take the reins and create a stunning venue for your special day—and what better way to cherish those moments than at your beloved country club? Come celebrate with us.

The Back Nine

Member Steve shares the talent he’d most like to have, his most treasured possession and what he believes to be the lowest depth of misery.

For each issue, the editors of Newport Beach Country Club Magazine send out a questionnaire to one of the club’s esteemed members or employees to gain some insight into a member of the NBCC family. These nine questions allow our readers to learn something new about old friends, or discover somebody at the club they had not met before. For this issue, we’re getting to know member Steve.

Newport Beach Country Club Magazine: Who is the greatest love of your life?
Steve: My wife, Ashley, and I have two children, Sawyer, 5, and Madden, 7. Watching them grow and seeing their wonderful personalities form brings a happiness that I think only parents could understand.

NBCCM: What do you consider your greatest achievement?
SC: Marrying my wife; I still haven’t figured out how I pulled that one off.

NBCCM: Which talent would you most like to have?
SC: Just getting kids to actually listen to me would be a real game changer at this point in my life.

NBCCM: When and where were you happiest?
SC: My favorite place in the world is on a boat in Cape Cod. Since I can remember, the water has been a happy place for me.

NBCCM: If you were to die and come back as a person or thing, what would it be?
SC: My father’s golden retriever: He goes everywhere with my dad, doesn’t know what a leash is and has zero responsibility.

NBCCM: On what occasion do you lie?
SC: Whenever I get pulled over

NBCCM: What is your most treasured possession?
SC: I’ve always been a lover of cars. I put my wife through hell with them. … She does exercise her veto rights at times, which I’m sure the club should appreciate as, without her veto, there would be a military Humvee parked in front of the club fairly regularly.

NBCCM: How would you like to die?
SC: If I could go out like Bruce Willis in “Armageddon,” that would be pretty cool.

NBCCM: What do you regard as the lowest depth of misery?
SC: The DMV and Disneyland
