Rep. Jill Tokuda Will Host Federal Resource Fair Aug. 19

Rep. Jill Tokuda Will Host Federal Resource Fair Aug. 19

The office of U.S. Representative Jill Tokuda will hold a federal resource fair in Kīhei on Saturday, Aug. 19, for Maui residents who have been affected by the Aug. 8 wildfires. Separate blazes that occurred on the West Side and Upcountry destroyed more than 2,000 structures in Lāhainā — 86% of which were residential — and 20 homes in Kula.

“My team and I stand ready to support the Maui community as local, state and federal resources are mobilized to support our recovery,” said a statement on Tokuda’s website.

Tokuda, her team and various federal agencies will be on site to provide direct support. According to a press release that came from Tokuda’s office, these entities will include:

  • The State Department for passport replacements

  • FEMA for general disaster aid

  • The Social Security Administration for social security support

  • The United States Postal Service for mail service support

  • U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development for housing support

  • U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services for immigration support

  • U.S. Department of Agriculture for farms and agriculture support

  • The Veterans Administration for veteran benefits

  • Veterans Affairs Pacific Island Health Care System for health care support

  • Maui Economic Opportunity

  • Additional agencies are currently pending

Maui Economic Opportunity will also provide shuttle service from the South Maui Community Park Gym shelter to the federal resource fair. This shuttle is only available to those directly impacted by the fires.

Pre-register for the event here.

Tokuda has also dedicated a portion of her website to providing resources through a Maui Wildfires Recovery Guide, which covers a variety of topics from immediate support and disaster-related assistance to mental health care.

The federal resource fair will be held at the Maui Economic Development Board’s Malcom Center at 1305 N Holopono St., Suite 5 in Kīhei on Saturday, Aug. 19, from 1-5 p.m. Call Tokuda’s Hawaiʻi office for information or assistance at 808-746-6220.
